Why are women so far behind the men in the halfpipe and freestyle?
I've been watching European Winter X-Game highlights and find myself fast-forwarding through the women's competitions, which seem dull compared to the men's. Why don't the women enjoy some of the advantages they do in gymnastics, where their size gives them a lower moment of intertia, requiring less torque and less energy to start rotating. Smaller people are also stronger, pound for pound, which should make tricks easier and more graceful. Sure, the heavier men can gain more speed on the downhill, but they should need it more to move their larger bodies in the jumps. Plus, in the halfpipe, they suffer more drag on the uphill. What factors am I failing to consider? Or are we just waiting for the Nadia Comaneci of snowboarding to show the women what's possible?
They don't have the balls.
Straight up I've been snowboarding half my life and I don't still. You ever been even ten feet out of a halfpipe? It's terrifying.
