Why do men make a big deal about women wearing hijab, when they wear whatever they want to?

I think Hamza Yusuf has a point. Some of the msot judgmental Muslim men walk around in Adidas sports wear, trying to blend into the West, but then they expect us to be walking targets while wearing hijab!
I'm not saying I shouldn't wear it, I should. But they should be less judgmental. Don't you agree?
Jeff, I didn't always wear it, and there are women who don't wear it.
Moses, there is a normative agreement that the hijab is a requirement. You don't have to agree; that is the beauty of Islam. There is no central organization that makes these calls. You're right, it's personal. BUT there are MEN who think it is required, too, yet do not hold themselves to any standards of hijab.
And PS Moses, you may not find the word hijab in the qur'an, but the word khimar is in the Qur'an, which is a veil. Explain that to me.
I'm Christian, but a big supporter of the hijab. My sig other is Muslim, and totally against it. Go figure.
In any event, I agree with you. People should be less judgemental in general. It's not up to anyone to pressure anyone else into doing that "they" see as right.
I don't know why, if men in the middle east often wear those white scarves with the band (which I think are really nice, btw) they don't wear them here. I know it's not required, but if the women are dressing up in niqabs and abayas, etc. why can't the guys make an effort for solidarity?
The guys can easily completely conform here, yet the women are completely set apart. If you love and honour someone, wouldn't you want to share their burdens? And if not, at the very least, you should leave them alone about their choices, it's between them and God.
